A vascular prosthesis is a device used to replace or repair a damaged or diseased section of a blood vessel, allowing proper blood flow. These devices can be synthetic or biological (transplants of blood vessels from other animals or the patient’s own blood vessels) and are used in various surgical procedures, such as vessel reconstruction to treat peripheral arterial disease or vascular access for hemodialysis. There are two types of materials: Dacron (polyester) and PTFE.
